12 Oct

The number of Peruvian mobile numbers ported in a single month surpassed the figure of 300,000 for the second time in September, according to the latest data released by telecom regulator Osiptel. A total of 341,579 users ported their phone number to another operator, some 8.1 percent more than the previous month. The ported numbers were divided almost equally between postpaid (173,900) and prepaid (167,679), said Osiptel.

Entel and Claro (America Movil) were the biggest beneficiaries of number porting in September, adding 133,825 and 113,378 mobile lines respectively but losing 65,719 and 86,347 lines over the same period. Movistar (Telefonica) posted a net loss, adding 73,498 lines but losing 148,332, while Bitel (Viettel) added 20,875 new users but shed 40,085.

The watchdog also announced that a total of 4.88 million mobile lines have been ported since the MNP system was activated in July 2014, with the figure set to exceed 5 million before the end of the year.
